This election is going to be the most interesting for over a decade. I find myself in the curious position of being unable to decide who to vote for. I have voted and campaigned for the Conservative Party for much of the last decade. Unfortunately, I have been so disappointed by their behaviour locally and by their sheer arrogance that I will probably not be voting for them at the General Election. Local Tory leaders have openly boasted of the "next Conservative government". Andrew, Sean, voters... Continue Reading >>
Today I attended a lecture with the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Ian Blair. Blair rejected criticism that he "politicised" the police during his term of office, arguing that the Police and politics have become inseperable. He nevertheless argued against the Tory idea of directly elected Chief Constables claiming that this would lead to a "political dictatatorship". Blair was critical of London Mayor Boris Johnson and his actions upon becoming the Chair of the Metropolitita... Continue Reading >>
I have received the following e-mail from The Gorge Parish Council which sums up Telford & Wrekin Councils approach to pot holes and much else around the borough: A quick fix.
At the last Parish Council meeting on the 19th January 2010 the Parish Councillors reported several potholes to me for report to TWC. Some of these potholes I regularly report I would say at least bi monthly. Each time they are filled it lasts for a very short time and the hole gets bigger next time. The best example ... I remain glad that Saddam Hussein is no more. Everyone knows that the coalition should have ousted Hussein following Desert Storm in 1991. There was no doubt that Hussein possessed biological and chemical agents: America sold them to him. There is also little doubt that he was prepared to use them: witness his gassing of the Kurds or the firing of Scud Missiles at Tel-Aviv.
I have no doubt that Blair believed that Saddam Hussein posed a serious threat to regional stabilty in the Middle East.... Continue Reading >>
Here are extracts from correspondence from representatives of the Town Centre to Telford & Wrekin Council from December 11th and which were released to councillors some two weeks later on Demcember 31st. An absolute disgrace - both in the delay and in the antics of T&W under Andrew Eade.
"We act on behalf of Telford Trustee NO.1 Limited and Telford Trustee NO.2 Limited (lithe Trustees"). Today Telford and Wrekin Council ("TWC") will have received a planning application from the Trustees for a... Continue Reading >>
I have had enough of seeing the government advert urging me to act on CO2 and drive " just
five miles less". Well, guess what? I resolve here and now to drive FIVE MILES
MORE each and every day over Christmas- the precise opposite of the government's menacing
propaganda. You know how much difference my gesture of defiance will make in the grand
scheme of things? None whatsoever. But it will amuse me no end over the festive period. Merry Christmas!
I do smile sometimes. Particularly when watching the unedifying spectacle of the Sudanese and Venazualan representatives at the Copenahagen climate change summit lecturing the developed world on morality.
Both Sudan and Venazuala are hostage to two of the most repressive governments on the face of the earth. Yet here we have our government debasing itself, prostrate at the feet of these totalitarian states. I wouldn't give the Sudanese or Venazuelan governments one penny, much less Billions ... Shropshire Star, Letters, Tuesday November 24th 2009
I am sure Gordon Brown will have read the advice of Adrian Williams concerning Afghanistan (Star Letters, November 18th). Does anyone seriously believe that Mr Brown is driven by anything other than a genuine concern for the safety of British citizens at home and abroad? I am all for bringing our troops home, but it is a mistake to believe that the threat from international terrorism will simply go away with their departure.
Comment: This is exactly the kind of integrated Town Centre proposal that is RIGHT for the borough. I welcome this development and I hope very much that T&W council will also embrace it.
These proposals accord with the future needs of the borough and afford a substantial shopping experience for the entire region.
That the misguided leadership of Telford & Wrekin Council thought that they could sideline Hark Appolo was an astonishing display of hubris and one which betrayed a lack of unders... Continue Reading >>
