Subject: "Three Dead In Greek Protests"

COMMENT: Here we see the true scale and impact of the "credit crunch" emerging. Are we witnessing the beginning of the end for the Euro and of the whole European project I ask myself? It is going to be an interesting time ahead. I am convinced that most people in this country haven't a clue as to the scale of the challenge that confronts our nation and government, whichever party is elected tomorrow.

"At least three people have been killed in the Greek capital as protesters set fire to a bank...

Subject: "Broken Brown Calls Pensioner A Bigoted Woman"

Gordon Brown is in very deep trouble. He is starting to look as though he is on the edge of a nervous breakdown. When challenged on East-European immigration by a very mild-mannered woman, Gillian Duffy, in Rochdale, he retreated back to his car where, with microphone still live, he proceded to call her a "bigoted woman".

I thought her comments were fairly mild. Immigration is an issue that is simmering just beneath the surface and has the potential to erupt at any moment. Her comments were ...

Comment: Nick Clegg's performance during the first leaders debate was superb and vindicates those who have championed the new kid on the block in favour of David Cameron. The wind has been blowing Cleggs way for some time and the fact that he out-classed both Cameron and Brown is testament as much to his fundamental honesty as to his considerable skills as a communicator.

Not since the days of David Owen have we been treated to a politician like this. Owen was ahead of his time and whilst he...

Subject: "Tory Poll Lead Collapses Further"
Date: 13th April 2010 @ 23:58:05
Author: George Ashcroft
===============
A Populus poll for The Times has given the Tories a lead of just three points over Labour.

If the results were repeated on polling day, Labour could be returned as the biggest party in a hung parliament. This should come as little surprise. The slogan "Time for change" is the most vacuous in politics. I think the Tories are in serious trouble.

If David Cameron flunks the televised debates, the Tories have had it. On the other hand, a good performance could make all the difference. Let's h...

COMMENT: A hung parliament is a distict possibilty and one which is a consequence of Tory arrogance. Their confused economic position does not help matters. When opinion polls still show that more people trust Gordon Brown on the economy than David Cameron, you know that the Tories are in deep trouble.

"Brown would remain as PM in hung parliament

Gordon Brown would have a duty to remain as prime minister for 18 days while he tries to form a government in the event of a hung parliament, a c...

COMMENT: The arrogance of the Tory party in Telford & Wrekin has worried me for a very long time. An exaggerated view of their likely showing at the General Election became apparent immediately after we took control of Telford & Wrekin Council in 2007. I cautioned against it to no avail - yet now the chickens are coming home to roost. I predict a narrow Labour hold in the Telford constituency.

Why didn't sensible and mature heads prevail? Perhaps they were too caught up in all the excitement ...

The leader of Britain's third largest party set out his policy requirements for backing either the Labour party or the Conservatives if neither wins an outright majority in the looming election.

In an interview published in the Independent Thursday, Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg said his party would strike "no deals" before the election, widely expected to be held on May 6.

"We are not here to play games with other parties," Clegg told the Independent.

"We are here to secure a big...

Subject: "Brown Makes Surprise Visit To Afghanistan"

Author: George Ashcroft
===============

Gordon Brown has visited UK troops in Afghanistan just hours after ex-military chiefs branded him "disingenuous" in the evidence he gave to the Iraq Inquiry.

The Prime Minister flew into Camp Bastion to thank some of the 4,000 British forces involved in Operation Mosthtarak - last month's assault on Taliban strongholds in Helmand Province.

Mr Brown said: "My visit is an opportunity to say thank you to the thousands of British, Afghan and international troops involved and to the dozens o...

Comment: Here we have an MEP, Nikki Sinclaire, who has devoted 16 years of her life to the UKIP cause, only be discarded from the party for having the temerity to question the party's Anti-Semitic links within the European Parliament. Just Google the name Nikki Sinclaire to understand the torrent of hatred that has been unleashed towards her.

On account of these developments and however much I like their Telford candidate, Denis Allen, who I have known for years, I cannot vote for UKIP. UKIP ...

Subject: "Hung Parliament: Lib Dems To Hold Balance Of Power"
Date: 3rd March 2010 @ 11:53:51
Author: George Ashcroft
===============
The leader of the Liberal Democrats moved to reassure markets on Wednesday that his party would not destabilise any minority government after an election. Skip related content

The Lib-Dems would hold the balance of power if either Labour or the Conservatives fail to secure an overall majority in the election that has to be held by early June.

The prospect of a "hung parliament," with no single dominant political force, has worried some investors who think it could lead to a weak administra...
